For their December community service project, the third graders at Trinity East Elementary collected donations for the Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund. Students who donated at least $5 were given a booklet filled with coupons for free homework passes or sitting by a friend at lunch. With the help of the PTA, who also made a generous donation, over $1,200 was raised. Thank you for helping us to make this project such a success!!
Learning to use reference tools like the World Almanac for Kids is part of the library curriculum. After studying the almanac in the library, each fourth grade class participated in the “World Almanac Challenge,” a competition to see which team could locate the answers to a wide variety of questions the fastest. The top team from each class then competed against each other in the “Ultimate World Almanac Challenge.” The winning team members received their own copy of the 2010 World Almanac for Kids. The competition was fierce, with all three teams tied at one point. Team Abbondanza won the top prize. Much fun was had by all and the show of good sportsmanship on behalf of all involved was very impressive. Fine work everyone!
Team Abbondanza - Brett Shaver, Navada Dunn, Renee Carlson, Stephen Schultz, Christian Barr
Team Shaw - Charles Boone, Gabe DeRosa, George Stough, Jacob Faro
Team West-Emerich - Cullen Attenberger, Chelsea Geer, Sierra Hermann, Zachary Berton, Stephen Poole
The Trinity East Staff netted $796.00 for the PTA from the Parent Appreciation Night. Students enjoyed pizza, popcorn, movies, crafts, and rock climbing. This was a fun filled evening that was had by all. Thank you to everyone that participated!
Lemonade for sale... and WOW did it sell! 2,744 cups of lemonade were drank by the students and staff of Trinity East. That is $868.00 worth; can you believe it? Thank you to everyone who supported the second graders and The Washington Food Bank!
During the week of November 16, 2009, the second grades at Trinity East will be reading a story titled "Lemonade for Sale". To incorporate this literature-based lesson, the second grade students and teachers will open and operate a lemonade stand for the students and staff of Trinity East to patronize. The proceeds collected during this week will be donated to the Greater Washington Food Bank. During this time of year it is important to teach the value of serving others rather than using the proceeds for ourselves. Thanks to all of the students and staff that are making this a success!
The flag that is being flown over Trinity East this Veterans Day was given to us by Lt. Col. Thomas J. Mackie of the United States Marine Corps. This flag was on board his aircraft that flew over the skies of Iraq on October 10, 2009.
Mitchell Zullo, a 4th grade student, is the step-son of Mr. Mackie.
