Families are invited to join us for a hands-on, drop-in learning experience that brings together artificial intelligence (AI), making, and family learning. Designed for students in approximately grades 4–12 and their parents or caregivers, this event reflects the spirit of Remake Learning Days by celebrating creativity, curiosity, and learning through doing.
Students will engage in a guided makerspace experience that encourages them to move through a creative process using AI as a tool. Beginning with idea generation, students will explore how AI can help spark creativity and problem-solving. They will then use makerspace materials to prototype their ideas, test and refine their designs, and make improvements based on what they learn along the way. Simple task cards at each station provide just enough direction to support exploration while allowing students to make choices, collaborate, and create in ways that feel meaningful to them.
While students are learning through hands-on making, parents and caregivers are invited to participate in brief, rotating learning sessions offered throughout the event, beginning approximately every 15 minutes. These short sessions provide an accessible introduction to AI, how students are encountering it in learning environments, and how families can support thoughtful and responsible use of AI at home and at school. Parents are welcome to join a session at any time or move freely between student activities and family learning opportunities.
This event is designed to be welcoming and flexible for families. Participants may arrive at any point during the event and move through the experience at a pace that works for them. No prior experience with AI or makerspace tools is needed.
By bringing students and families together around making and exploration, this event highlights how creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking can be developed through hands-on learning experiences. Families will leave with a better understanding of how AI can support learning, as well as ideas for continuing conversations and exploration beyond the event.
